Sympathetic ophthalmia

Rare autoimmune inflammatory disorder usu. occur following a penetrating injury (trauma/ surgery) of one eye.

Pathophysiology: eye tisssue enter blood circulation (during the penetrating injury) causing sensitization of body immune system and produce antibodies towards eye tissue.

symptoms:
-floating spots
-reduce sensation
-increase sensitivity to light
-pain in both eyes

sign:
-severe reaction in anterior chamber
-with large greasy appearing deposits in cornea (mutton fat keratic precipitates)
-Dalen Fuch's nodule in choroid
-thickening of uveal tract
may acompany: pailloedema, cataract, glaucoma, vitiligo, poliosis (patches of white eyelash)
