Important in red eye..

Red eye

Chlamydial conjunctivitis - chronic bilateral mucopurulent, with assoc venereal dz symp (genitourinary)

Ophthalmia neonatarum ( in baby less than 1 month) -notifiable disease.

Iridocyclitis / anterior uveitis : important to consider pt have DM. Also occur recurrent / chronic in sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, seronegative arthropathy, +ve HLA B27, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, herpes zoster ophthalmicus, syphillis.

Panuveitis: sarcoidosis, wegener granulomatosis, sle, polyarteritis nodosa, behchet disease.

Acute angle closure glaucoma- symptom come quite quick, usu attack in the evening when pupil is semidilated, may acoompanied by severe headache, nausea and vomiting that may be misdiagnosed as acute abdominal or neurosurgical. May have similar attack before that relieved by sleeping (as pupil constricted during sleeping). Patientt may need reading glass earlier in life. May also present i,mmediately after GA or after receive nebulised drug (salbutamol or ipratropium bromide). Pressure must be brought down immediately by acetazolamide and pilocarpine 4% eye drop. Then iridotomy (laser) or iridectomy (surgical) should be done.
